The City of Hercules works with local nonprofits to host community events throughout the year to encourage residents to meet fellow neighbors, enjoy our diverse community, and help make the city a better place to live. For more detailed event information, visit the Community Calendar and the Recreation Events page. 

REC EGGS-PO, FEATURING THE HYDRO HUNT  (Spring event)

The Rec EGGs-Po and Hydro Hunt event is held annually on the Saturday before Easter at the Hercules Community Swim Center.  The feature attraction for this event is our HYDRO HUNT where children of all ages will get to hunt for eggs in our swimming pool!  At the end of the egg hunt, all participants can redeem their eggs for a special goodie bag to bring home. *Must reserve your spot for the HYDRO HUNT. Call (510) 799-8291 to reserve your spot today as space is limited!  While the children are retrieving eggs, parents have the opportunity to register for summer programs at a discount.  NOTE:  to receive the 10% discount, eligible program fees must be paid in full (*does not apply to Child Care, Tiny Tots, Swim Team or Traditional Summer Camp).   

COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY (May event)

The Community Cleanup Day is held at the City of Hercules Corporation Yard, located at 1000 Sycamore Avenue on the first Saturday of May annually.  This is a one day event is geared towards helping to beautify the community by providing a dumpsite to throw away outdoor trash, yard clippings, tree limbs, and more.  To participate you must be a Hercules resident, and show ID to get in.  NO Construction materials, NO U-Hauls. Participants must be able to unload their vehicle.  

CULTURAL FESTIVAL  (June event)

The Cultural Festival is a City Sponsored event run by the Bayfront Chamber of Commerce.  The event is typically held the first Sunday of June, at Refugio Valley Park from approximately 11am to 6pm.  The Cultural Festival features live music, local performers, food trucks, vendors and more. MOVIE NIGHTS (a.k.a. FRIDAY FAMILY FLIX & FUN)

Join us during the summer for some FREE entertainment in the park. We hold (3) movie nights with Food Trucks and a storywalk provided by the Hercules Library.  *Movies start after sundown.

4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS SHOW  (July event)

The City of Hercules holds a FREE Fireworks Show on the 4th of July.  Click here for more details about this great hometown celebration.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT (a.k.a. NNO)  (August event)

National Night Out Day is observed annually on the first Tuesday in August, and held at Refugio Valley Park, located at 1515 Refugio Valley Road. This night focuses on the community and raising awareness in the United States. Promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer.  

BAY FRONT FESTIVAL & RUN  (October event)

The Bay Front Festival and Run is a City Sponsored event run by the Bayfront Chamber of Commerce.  The event is held on the first Sunday of October.  Run Along Bayfront Blvd. & The Bay Trail

Come for the run, stay for the fun at the Bay Front Festival. Registration for the run costs $35.

UNITY DAY (October event)

Standing together against bullying, united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion, make it orange and make it change. Wear orange to support Unity Day.

HALLOWEEN IN HERCULES  (October event)

Join us for our annual Halloween event called Trunk or Treat, featuring our pumpkin carving contest known as PUMPKATAAZ.  Both events are FREE to the Hercules Community and are held the Friday before Halloween, at the Hercules Community Swim Center located at 2001 Refugio Valley Road.  The event typically starts at 6p and ends around 8:30p.  What is Trunk or Treat? What is PUMPKATAAZ? Simply put…

  • Trunk or Treat is an alternative to the traditional Halloween Trick or Treat activity.
  • PUMPKATAAZ (pronounced Pump-Ka-tahs), is our version of a good old fashion pumpkin carving contest.

Trunk or Treat and PUMPKATAAZ have become a community favorite here in Hercules. Both events are run by Hercules Parks and Recreation in conjunction with City Recognized Nonprofit groups, as well as many other businesses, partners, and stakeholders in the community.

HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING  (December event)

The Holiday Tree Lighting event is held at the Hercules Community Swim Center on the first Sunday in December annually.  This event is FREE to the community.  The event typically runs from 3:30-5:30pm.  The highlight of the event is when Santa lights the Tree to celebrate the start of the holiday season.  Please join us for this magical event in Hercules!  To help our community during the holidays, please feel free to contribute canned food items, gently used coats, and/or unwrapped toys.  Santa will be here for photo opportunities. 

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA  (December event)

Breakfast with Santa is typically held at the Hercules Community Swim Center the second Saturday of December.  Tickets can be purchased in advance through the Friends of the Hercules Senior Center.  For more information please contact Hercules Park and Recreation at (510) 441-4FUN (4386).
