Traffic related issues are among the most common complaints for Hercules residents. To address these concerns, the Hercules Police Department has deployed a trained traffic enforcement officer and proper traffic enforcement equipment.

The goal of the Traffic Division is not only to seek out aggressive drivers or issue citations for traffic safety laws, but to also educate the public regarding traffic related issues and alert the public to areas of concern. When concerns about speed related issues in neighborhoods, near parks or in school zones arise, the Traffic Division will often deploy the department Radar Trailer to the area. In order to determine how severe a problem might be, the Traffic Division may also call on the assistance of the Patrol Division for further enforcement.

Weather permitting, officers assigned to the Traffic Division can be seen patrolling the streets on a motorcycle. The motorcycle allows the officer the ability to maneuver through traffic congestion. The majority of the time they can be found focusing their attention on high traffic areas, such as Sycamore and San Pablo Ave. This focused attention has helped decrease the number of red light violators and traffic crashes in problem areas.

The streets are not the only place you may find a member of the Traffic Division. The motor officer can also be found patrolling the pedestrian / bike paths and city parks, helping to ensure the peace and safety for those who use the parks and pathways.
