2009 - Timothy Cook Homicide

December 3, 2009 - At 10:32 pm Police received a call of possible gun shots in the 700 block of Devonwood. Before officers arrived, a second call was received with reports that someone had been shot.

When officers arrived, Timothy Cook, 43 years, of Hercules was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Doctors Medical in San Pablo. Mr. Cook did not survive his injuries.

Hercules Police canvassed the neighborhood and spoke with witnesses who described the suspect as a Hispanic or African American male wearing dark clothing. He is described as being 5’8” – 5’9” and approximately 170lbs. The suspect approached and fled the scene on foot.

The incident is still under investigation. No possible motive is known at this time.

1997 - Neal and Brendan Abernathy Homicide

February 19, 1997 - A REWARD OF UP TO FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($50,000) will be paid by Chevron to the person or persons who furnish information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who murdered Neal Abernathy and his twelve year old son Brendan, husband and son of Chevron employee Susan Abernathy.

1980 - Sue Bailey Homicide

May 28, 1980 - At approximately 2:45 p.m., a badly decomposed body was discovered body was discovered by a juvenile hiker approximately 100 yards north of the Hercules Water Tower.  The victim was found in a shallow grave covered with branches, leaves and bark.  The victim had a piece of clothing around her neck tied in a double knot.  She was clothed only in a blue and green long sleeve print blouse, nude from the waist down.  The victim had a red, white and blue handmade bead bracelet on her right wrist.  One other distinguishing feature is that the victim obviously suffered from a physical back deformity.

The autopsy report showed that the victim was struck on the left side of her face and stabbed multiple times.
